Hazratullah-powered world record total of 278 too much for Ireland

A world record total of 278/3 fueled by Hazratullah Zazai’s staggering knock of 162 runs off just 62 balls and Rashid Khan’s four wickets helped Afghanistan beat Ireland by 84 runs in the second T20I match of the Islamic Bank of Afghanistan T20I series to secure the three-match series.

Zazai remained unbeaten scoring a stunning innings of 162 runs off just 62 deliveries which included 16 sixes and 11 fours. His knock was the second highest individual score in T20Is which propelled Afghanistan to the highest total in T20Is beating Australia’s 263/3. He was well supported by Usman Ghani at the other end who contributed 73 off just 48 deliveries.

Ireland were firm in their response as the experienced opening duo of Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien added 126 runs for the first wicket before the dangerous partnership was broken by Fareed Malik in the 12th over of the chase.

With Rashid’s four overs remaining, it was always going to be a tough task for the Irish. Rashid did not disappoint continuing his spin magic to end with 4 wickets giving away just 25 runs as Ireland could manage 194/6 thus conceding the match by 84 runs and effectively losing the three-match series.

The third and final T20I of the three-match T20I series will be played tomorrow at 5:30 PM AFT.
