Chief Selector Dawlat Khan Ahmadzai today announced a list of over 40 players who will participate in a training camp in Bengaluru starting later this week.
Ahmadzai who was speaking in a press conference today said: “The purpose of the training camp is preparations for the upcoming series against Ireland that is scheduled for late February in Dehradun. The series will consist of five ODIs, three T20Is and the first ever Test match between both teams.”
He added: “After the series against Ireland is over, a preliminary 20-member squad will be selected for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Since the World Cup will be played in England and Wales, we will strive to include more fast bowlers and fast bowling all-rounders in the team set-up. Preparations for the tournament has already been underway for the last couple of months starting with the training camp in Chennai last year.”
The list of players selected for the camp is as follows:
Mohammad Shahzad, Hazratuallah Zazai, Noor Ali Zadran, Najibullah Tarakai, Usman Ghani, Javed Ahmadi, Ihsanullah Janat, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, Samiullah Shinwari, Nasir Jamal, Asghar Afghan, Darwish Rasooli, Shahid Kamal, Najib Zadran, Shafiqullah Shafaq, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ikram Alikhil, Afsar Zazai, Munir Ahmad, Aftab Alam, Dawlat Zadran, Sayed Shirzad, Shapoor Zadran, Fazal Haq, Wafadar Momand, Yamin Ahmadzai, Zia ur Rahman Sharifi, Farid Malik, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mirwais Ashraf, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Zia ur Rahman Akbar, Waqar Salamkheil, Hamza Hotak, Abdul Wasi, Zahir Khan, Abdul Baqi and Qais Ahmad.
The camp will last for 22 days after which the final squad will travel to Dehradun for a conditioning camp followed by the month-long series against Ireland from 21st February to 19th March.
