Speenghar boosted their chances of reaching the Final of the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional Tournament as they beat Band-e-Amir in the fifth match of the super six round.
Speenghar, having won the toss, elected to field first on a flat surface at Kabul Cricket Stadium. Band-e-Amir lost their opening wicket early as explosive batsman Hazratullah Zazai lost his wicket to Aftab Alam in the third over of the innings. His partner, Ihsanullah went on to score a well-played 45 runs before being caught behind by Ikram Ali Khil off Tahir Khan’s bowling. However, young Ibrahim Zadran put on a great performance scoring a century which stabilized the Band-e-Amir innings. He was well supported by wicket-keeper batsman Younas Ahmadzai who scored 63 runs. The pair put on 121 runs for the fifth wicket. Band-e-Amir eventually managed to put 266 runs on board off their 50 overs.
In response Speenghar captain and opener, Mohammad Shahzad played a captain’s knock as he stabilized his team’s innings after they lost 2 wickets off successive deliveries in the sixth over off Nijat Masood’s bowling. Shahzad and wicket-keeper batsman Ikram Alikhil put on 75 runs for the third wicket.
Speenghar were struggling at one stage when they were 190/6 in the 41st over of the chase. However, a match winning knock by Tahir Khan and a quick cameo by Azmatullah Omarzai ensured they chase the required runs in the 50th over of the innings.
Tahir Khan was declared player of the match for his match-winning innings of 49 runs which steered his team home.
