Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by 45 runs in the first T20I of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines T20I Series

Bangladesh won the toss and invited Afghanistan to bat first. Afghan openers Mohammad Shahzad Mohammadi and Usman Ghani put on 63 runs for the first wicket. Mohammad Shahzad was the top scorer for Afghanistan scoring 40 runs before he was caught off Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling. Afghanistan lost quick wickets in the middle overs as Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi both lost their wickets to Mahmoodullah in the same over.

However, a stable partnership between Samiullah Shinwari and Asghar Stanikzai put Afghanistan back on track. Hard hitting batsman Shafiqullah Shafaq scored a quick innings of 24 runs before he was bowled by Abul Hasan. Afghanistan set a target of 168 runs for Bangladesh to chase in 20 overs.

Bangladesh lost their opener Tamim Iqbal in the first over of the innings when he was out LBW off Mujeeb ur Rahman’s bowling. The wickets continued to come quickly for Afghanistan as Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan dismantled the Bangladeshi line-up. Fast bowler Shapoor Zadran contributed with three wickets giving away 40 runs in the process.

Bangladesh were all out for 122 runs as Afghanistan won the match by 45 runs. Rashid Khan was adjudged Man of the match for his 13/3.
